Il est victime de leur trahison, puis condamné par une justice corrompue qui l’envoie dans les cachots du château d’If. Son coeur se creuse et devient affamé de vengeance.
Motivé par son désir de confondre ceux qui l’ont dupé et oublié, Dantès trompe la mort et réussit une évasion spectaculaire. Il se précipite vers l’île de Monte-Cristo, où on lui a secrètement confié qu’un trésor était enfoui.
Se croyant agent de la Providence, il poursuivra systématiquement ceux qui l’ont privé de sa vie, de l’amour et de sa famille. Le comte de Monte-Cristo apparaît : urbain, puissant et mystérieux. Sa richesse et ses exploits font parler de lui à Paris.
Mais la vengeance est souvent cruelle et insatiable… et qui s’y enivre risque de boire un breuvage amer.
Allons donc, homme régénéré, repasse par les chemins où la fatalité t’a poussé, où le malheur t’a conduit, où le désespoir t’a reçu…

Motivated by his desire to bring to justice those who had deceived and forgotten him, Dantès cheats death and makes a spectacular escape. He rushes to the island of Monte Cristo, where he has been secretly told that a treasure is buried.
